The Founder of Kiwanis Malaysia

In the annals of Kiwanis history, April 1976 marked the genesis, brought forth by the late Tan Sri Khir Johari—a distinguished figure, Malaysia’s esteemed US Ambassador. Upon his return from dedicated service, he sowed the seeds of Kiwanis in Malaysia, earning the endearing title ‘Bapa Malaysia’ (Father of Kiwanis). As the inaugural helm-bearer, Tan Sri Khir Johari steered the Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur into being. Today, we are honoured to have his beloved wife, Puan Sri Hajah Khir Johari, as our esteemed patron, affectionately known as ‘Mama Kiwanis’ (Mother of Kiwanis), continuing the legacy with grace and devotion.

Since Founder Tan Sri Khir Johari established Kiwanis, his beloved wife, Puan Sri Hajah Khir Johari, has faithfully accompanied him on this noble journey. Following his passing, Puan Sri Hajah remains a devoted member of Kiwanis, wholeheartedly supporting and actively participating in all its endeavors.

Her involvement spans beyond event appearances, encompassing active participation in major fundraising initiatives and various Kiwanis projects. Notably, she has championed the prestigious Tan Sri Khir Johari Awards and Grants program, displaying unwavering dedication and contributing her own financial support to inspire fellow Kiwanians and others towards societal improvement.

Exuding a gentle demeanor and profound knowledge, Puan Sri Hajah is a well-spoken and unassuming individual. Her exceptional ability to connect with people from diverse cultures makes her a figure deeply cherished by many within the Kiwanis community. Hence, it comes as no surprise that she is affectionately known as the Mama Kiwanis, a testament to her remarkable contributions and endearing character.
